Book a weekend Day Skipper or general navigation update course running from our dedicated classroom at Plymouth Yacht Haven.   £175 per weekend.  Small classes, and lots of one to one tuition and student focused exercises.

Direction: Easy access by road and via the Plymouth Ferry network running from both Mayflower Marina and Sutton Harbour to Mountbatten.   Course prices include the course pack with use of our Training Almanacs and Portland Plotter and divider set.  You can purchase Portland Plotter sets from our office at £22.50.

Our aim is to accommodate your busy lifestyle.  We offer flexible course options:  5 day intensive, weekends, or 4 days theory as part of the 9 day practical/shore based combined course.

Register your interest for our Autumn evening classes.  Starting November 2017.  Sessions run 7 – 9.30, 1 session per week over a 16 week period.  £340 per student.

The basis of our course is student focus with lots of hands on practice navigating and completing exercises using the charts and is aimed to be a social class. The Day Skipper is a must! It starts from scratch with navigation, weather, safety and is suitable for both experienced sailors who want to brush up, or fill in the gaps in their basic knowledge and for those new to boating and planning to take a boat on the water, especially if you are responsible for other people.

Assessment takes the form of 2 assessment papers for the Day Skipper shore based, a navigational paper and a general paper.  See description for topics.

  • Chart work
  • Electronic charts
  • Position fixing
  • Plotting a course to steer

  • Construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat
  • Emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, life jackets and life rafts
