RYA Day Skipper Practical course

The 5 day Practical Day Skipper syllabus follows on from the shorebased course, turning your theory into practice over 5 consecutive days, staying on board or it can also be taken over a 2 and 3 day weekend.

The aim or this crucial course is to develop your skills so that you become a confident and competent skipper of a small sailing vessel in familiar waters by day. Learn to skipper a short passage with the instructor on hand to give advice and encouragement and ensure your safety. Experience being in charge, taking credit when it all goes well and being responsible when it doesn’t.

The RYA Day Skipper Practical course syllabus includes, organising and managing the preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, maintenance and repair work, engines, victualling, emergency situations, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, passage making, night cruising.

Recommended pre-course experience 5 days, 100 miles or the completion of the RYA Competent Crew course.

Certification: On successful completion of 5 days at sea (2 and 3 day weekends or 2 x 3 weekends), the award of a Day Skipper Practical Tidal Course Certificate. You can also apply for your ICC certificate required for bareboat and flotilla charter in the Mediterranean.
