Come and join us for a fun and an informative RYA Day Skipper Course starting from our Plymouth based dedicated training facility at Plymouth Yachthaven, Shaw Road, Mountbatten in Plymouth and start your practical from Sutton Harbour on the edge of the historic Barbican quarter. There are good road links or a short ferry ride across the Cattwater joins our two centres. A separate ferry to Mountbatten is available for students attending the shorebased course from Mayflower marina.

The 9 day course runs from Saturday to Sunday – 4 days in the classroom and 5 days on the water. Split dates available for 2018
The basis of our courses is one of student focus. We aim to improve your skills through a process of practical teaching methods, informal and formal assessment, feedback with loads of time for you to practice new skills within a fun, safe and challenging environment under the guidance of your instructor.
At successful completion of the course you will be awarded the RYA Day Skipper Practical & Shorebased certificates and qualify to apply for the International Certificate of Competence which will enable you to Charter Yachts abroad.
The course price includes: Accommodation on board your yacht during the practical, food on board during the Practical course, the RYA Day Skipper course pack and hire of a Portland Plotter and set of Dividers, RYA Certificates including the new photo ID Day Skipper practical certificate. We give you the the option of staying on board during the shorebased (subject to availability) at £15 per person, alternatively stay at one of Plymouth’s superb B&B establishments.
Our instructors are friendly, experienced and professional and have been sailing with us for a long time.

The basis of our course is student focus with lots of hands on practice navigating and completing
exercises using the charts. Classroom navigation includes position fixing, estimating position, course to steer, and calculating height of tide plus all the essentials of coastal navigation, pilotage, meteorology and electronic navigation.
Get the chance to put your theory into practice and reinforce what you have already learned in a practical environment under the guidance of your qualified and experienced RYA Instructor. Our planned training itinerary takes in the delights of Plymouth Sound, Tamar, Salcombe and Fowey allowing students to gain strong skills in our challenging environment. Topics include boat handling under power and sail, sail theory, pilotage methods and passage planning, mooring and anchoring skills
